Getting Term Life

February 22nd, 2007 by Bryan · No Comments

Based on many recommendations, I am getting a term-life policy for my family. Most of what I have read recommends 8-10 times your annual salary. I chose 8x. My work provides 2x term life, but if I change jobs that policy goes away.

I went to Zander Insurance at the recommendation of Dave Ramsey to find a policy, because they have many to choose from. You fill out some info about yourself, answer a few health related questions and they will send you an application in the mail. Seemed pretty simple, really.

I received a call the other day from someone who is coming out to the house to do a pseudo-physical and will take the application. I don’t know what they are going to do, but I do have to fast 12 hours before they arrive. I’m kinda nervous about this. I wish I would have done this when I was in better shape.

Bottom line is, if you have a family and or children, get a 20 or 30 year term-life policy. It is important to support your family should something unexpected happen. In my case I am only looking at about $35 per month. Cheap, really, for the peace of mind it provides.
